| 50 kilometres south of Erfoud,
the village of Merzouga shows the beginning of Sahara and the huge
dunes curving their waves over the borders. Somewhere, over there,
it’s Algeria, but the wind blows through the countries without
a visa. |
Erg Chebbi is the sole Saharan erg in Morocco. It’s
huge, 22 km North-South and 5 km West-East, and its high dunes
easily reach the 150 metres high. Its red colour reminds of the
wonderful Soslusvei dunes in Namibia. |
| Whether a sun rise or a sunset, you’ll go in
the dunes, with camels, you’ll even sleep under the stars,
when you suddenly discover how bright the Milky Way can be, far
away from the pollution of our big cities. |
|
The erg hosts many bird species. The wildest places can be
found in the eastern part. And it is even possible, in Spring,
that a seasonal lake comes, in the north-west part, attracting
flamingos and other sweet water birds.
We offer many tours passing
by Merzouga. You can either take a simple walk in the dune, or
make a bivouac under the stars.
