Why do we open a shop ?

We believe in an ethical tourism, we believe it is possible our two worlds meet and exchange within a framework respectful of both, we believe in a sustainable development profitable to Moroccans.
To facilitate these exchanges, to give you the opportunity to buy Moroccan products without passing by many resellers, the Oasis in Mezgarne open its shop, in close cooperation with local cooperatives and associations.

We travel a lot between Morocco and Europe, and each time, we bring into Morocco gifts for our association, Ayour de Mezgarne. And in the other direction, in our nearly empty cases, we bring Moroccan products to offer them here.
Why ? With us, you avoid transportation costs from Morocco, and difficulties to pay locally, in dirham, through expensive drafts. Our products are already imported in Europe, and are quickly sent after you order, which you can pay easily, in Euro, dollar or sterling.
The profit is shared with our partner, you pay less than you would in a normal street shop, and they sell at a higher price than to their usual resellers.

We warranty our products’ quality. Saffron of Taliouine is cultivated according bio standards and international ISO standards. Our jewels are in silver, usually hallmarked, and you know their weight. When you come to Morocco, we can take you to visit the cooperatives, and you can shop directly there !

Saffron of the Souktana Cooperative, in Taliouine
The Souktana Cooperative groups all producers of the are of Taliouine, in the Sirwa mountains. This is where saffron is traditionally cultivated, with an annual production of more or less three tons.
The saffron is of excellent quality, dried in open-air (that’s how it differs from Spanish and Iranian saffron, which are dried over a heater), and can be kept up to 18 months (if it stored out of light). A gram is enough to season our meals for a few weeks, but our recipes will push you to use it much more often !

Berber jewels of Tiznit
Berber silver pendant
Berber jewels are traditionally made of silver. Only a few families could afford gold. Women were the bank of the family, wearing its wealth as earrings, bracelets, and other chains. The jewels were melted and sold again in case of need, and bought again later on with better days.
An art typical of the Berber culture developed very early, with abstract motives, triangles, polygons, and also circles reminding of some Celtic patterns.
It is always difficult to give an exact to a piece. The patterns had been repeated over the centuries, and the way jewellers work, transmitted from father to son, did not evolve that much. Really old pieces are quite rare, and quite expensive. Most of the antics won’t have more than 150 years at best, very best….

Silver jewellery is mainly situated in Tiznit, a small southern city which souk is full of jewels. Other cooperatives are situated near Tinerhir, near the silver mines.

We offer you modern pieces, made of silver, and inspired of the traditional motives. Some of them are coming from Niger, and are brought to Morocco by the Tuaregs, all the other are locally produced in Tiznit.

Order, dispatch, payment

We sell in Europe through a German company. We don’t have (yet ?) a shop on E-bay.
